Sony Ericsson X10

Sony Ericsson officially announced their new smartphone which is based on Android. It features 2 things in main. Timescape and Mediascape are those. These are 2 applications. Each gives users an aggregated experience. Timescape is for communication and Mediascape is for multimedia.

Specificiation
Qualcomm Snapdragon 1GHz
wide VGA (840 x 458)
4-inch capacitive touch screen
8.1 MP camera with LED flash
skinned with Rachael UI ( I suspect that Rachael UI means Timescape and Mediascape)
Expected to be launched around February, 2010 (not yet official date)

For the detail information, previews and analysis, please take a look at the following websites. This list will be updated as I find new ones.

Finally, Palm Pre has been launched

Palm Pre has been launched last week.
They are sold out. It seems to live up to the hype.
Most surprising to me is a iTunes sync feature.
Look & feel is great. I think it can be a real rival to iPhone.

Before Palm Pre launch, Google held a Google IO conference.
In the conference, Google showed a few really good features of HTML5.

As a WebOS, Can Palm Pre be a real winner in the smartphone races?

For a review, please have a look at the following.(Engadget Mobile)

Windows Mobile 6.5 Official launch is imminent (But have to wait for a few months for real devices)

Engadget posted about the launch of Windows Mobile 6.5.
Actually AKUs of Windows Mobile 6.5 have been distributed to their partners already since early this year. Now MS confirmed that it will be officially launched on May 11th. Now the app developers can download SDKs and emulators for 6.5. Even though it is just an update to the old version of Windows Mobile 6.1, it includes lots of make-overs and structural changes (it's not that significant but it can affect the compatibility).

Please look at the following link

Toshiba's WM lineup

On the internet, the roadmap of Windows Mobile devices from Toshiba popped up.
It looks like another HTC. Their lineups are sharing the similar platform with small variants. We need to keep an eye on Toshiba.

XMPP (eXtensible Messaging and Presence Protocol)

I am studying android. The android framework provides lots of useful services for the applications. One of them is XMPP service. This is for a kind of open source IM. It can be summarized like this.

XMPP is for a technology for streaming XML over a network.

It is standardized by IETF. RFC 3920 for XMPP core and RFC3921 for XMPP IM.
XMPP was called jabber at the beginning because it had been developed in that name as a open source project. After standardized, the name changed to more formal XMPP. Still some people call it jabber.

Please look at here for more detail.
